Art Theory & Film
$ 260 per class.
• Digital Filmmaking / ATF100
Write, cast, direct, and produce your own five-minute digital narrative, non-narrative, or experimental film to be premiered at a special film festival at the end of the 3 month term.
Writing for the Screen (Term A) / ATF100A
Students bring to class a proposal for a five-minute script that is
then developed, written, and discussed weekly in class.
Directing the Short (Term B) / ATF100B
Student Directors learn pre-production and shoot their short film using
their own equipment.
Editing & Post Production (Term C) / ATF100C
Students edit their shorts including music, sound, and title sequences for
their completed final project. (Knowledge of digital editing software is a
prerequisite to this class.)
• Auteur Study: The Films of John Cassavetes / ATF101
With an examination of Cassavetes’ individual technique and aesthetic development throughout his prolific career, class participants will watch one of his films each week followed by critique and discussion.
•Art in Public Places / ATF102
Delving into the historical relationship of artist to environment, students perform an analysis of the local community and complete their own site-specific art installation.
• The Everyday / ATF103.
Drawing on events and routines of everyday life students transform the ordinary into extraordinary. The focus will be on transplanting ideas and images into digital film, still imagery, mixed media, or installations that examine, critique, or celebrate personal issues.
• The Artist’s Way:
A Course in Discovering the Recovery of Your Creative Self / ATF104
“This is an empowering course for aspiring and working artists. With the basic principle that creative expression is the natural direction of life, the group is lead through a comprehensive 3 month, 12-week program to recover creativity from a variety of blocks, including limited beliefs, fear, self-sabotage, jealousy, guilt, addictions, and other inhibiting forces, replacing them with artistic confidence and productivity.”

This course will be taught by Elissa Kennedy, who holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University and a BFA in Fine Art from Art Center College of Design. Her work centers around individual transformation and conscious awareness.
