• Computer Basics / DM100
This class is designed to teach the fundamentals of the computer. Using your computer or ours, we will teach you basic skills including creating files and folders, saving files or images to a disk, printing, e-mail and how to surf the Internet. This class is great for beginners. Private instruction is available.
• Microsoft Office Suite / DM101 / $ 800 three month package
Learn the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In three months you will obtain a comprehensive knowledge of how to use the Microsoft Office Software. Students may sign up for individual sessions or the discounted three-month package. Read individual descriptions for more information on each program.

Learn how to create a basic Word document, the basics of styling, creating resumes, business letters, mailing labels, letterhead, and printing envelopes. This class is great for beginners. (See Microsoft Suite in schedule)
• Microsoft Excel / DM103
Do you want to be more organized at home and at your job? Learn how to create basic spreadsheets to organize data that will do calculations for you. Learn how Excel can help you manage your business or personal finances with greater ease. Whether you are keeping track of capital improvements, or business and household expenses, this class is for you. (See Microsoft Suite in schedule)
• Microsoft Powerpoint / DM104
PowerPoint is a useful tool whether you are making a slide-show presentation for work, school or fun. This program is great for all ages. (See Microsoft Suite in schedule)
• Quickbooks Pro / DM105
With this step-by-step system, QuickBooks is an invaluable accounting tool for your home or business. Learn how to set up your chart of accounts, create invoices, write and print checks, reconcile your checkbook, run reports, or to do your payroll.
• Filemaker Pro / DM106
Learn how to create and maintain a Filemaker Pro Database. Filemaker is used to store and organize information, cross reference data, names and other general information. Organize your personal or business documents in this easy to use filing system.
• Design in Word / DM107
For the student or professional who wants to use Word with an emphasis on design. Learn the basics of Word to create your own letterheads, cards, resumes, labels, fliers, and more using the elements of design to individualize your output.
iLife
Applied Arts’ “iLife Series” introduces students to the programs in Apple’s iLife for Mac. Each course has thorough, hands-on lessons that suit beginning to advanced students needs on troubleshooting the programs. These courses have so much to offer that the series is often taken more then once.
• iLife Series: Using iTunes, iPod and iPhoto / DM200
Students are instructed in the use of Apple’s iPod mp3 player, iTunes and iPhoto programs. Learn how to import CDs, digitally enhance scratched CDs, creating play lists, exporting songs, burning music to CDs, and setting up a Music Store account. Also learn how to download images to iPhoto, easy image correction, slideshows, and transferring photos to an iPod. Students should come prepared with an iPod, a few music CD’s and a disc of digital photographs.
• iLife Series: Using iWeb / DM201
Students will learn how to create and design their own website from start to finish, which can then be posted to their Mac account (if they have one) or their own domain name. Utilizing existing iWeb templates, students will have the ability to fully customize their site with their own photos, colors, style and personality.
• iLife Series: Garageband / DM202
GarageBand is an introduction to musical recording and sampling for Mac users. The primary focus will be on comprehension of recording and editing software as well as musical theory. GarageBand can also be used to enhance, narrate, or edit previously recorded material. The projects are limitless in this audio realm.
• iLife Series: Using iDVD & iMovie / DM203
iMovie gives moviemakers an easy alternative to capturing and editing from video camcorders. iDVD offers easy ways to present your movie, or use this program to learn how to create portfolios to showcase your artwork or images.
• iLife Series: Using iPhone / DM204
With iPhone one can search the web, listen to music, take pictures and talk on the phone with a device just as small as the average cell phone. Learn to navigate through the onscreen touch display, search the Internet, take pictures, download music, add contacts to your address book and more.
Digital Photography
• Intro To Digital Photography / DM300
This class is a primer for photographers new to the digital world. Learn how to use your camera and how to download pictures into the computer. Explore elementary image manipulation with programs like iPhoto and how to save and archive images. Private instruction is available.
• Digital Archive / DM301
Learn to scan slides, color negatives, black and white negatives and two-dimensional images up to 12 x 17 inches for your digital portfolio, website, or just for your own reference. Learn about input and output file information, file resolution, and color adjustments. You will be adjusting images in Photoshop as well as learning about archival quality printers, inks and papers.
• Photoshop I / DM302
This class takes place in our fully equipped digital lab. Master the basic tools and concepts required for using this powerful software to manipulate and transform images. Students learn how to create and save files, to navigate using selection tools, history and layer palettes. Photoshop is an essential tool for graphic artists in the business world today.
• Photoshop II / DM303
A continuation course to Photoshop I. Students will learn layer techniques, masking,
color conversion, filters and more.
• Photo Manipulation / DM304
Learn to manipulate photos using the wide variety of tools in Photoshop. Students should bring a file or photograph they want to alter, montage, or manipulate. This class will cover techniques used for making color adjustments, blending images, retouching, restoring old photos, and creating new images.
• Photo Collage: Part I / DM305
Combine images for collage in a digital format. Students should be able to bring in images on disc or to scan.
• Photo Collage: Part II / DM306
Digital collage turned art medium, incorporate computer generated images into printed monotypes. Monotype methods include Xerox, Citra solve and Inkjet transfers. Students should have an understanding of Photoshop and/or have taken the Photo Collage: Part I course.
• Photo Reference For Painters / DM307
This course is for painters interested in using photographs as a tool to create the finest references possible. Each student will use Photoshop as a tool to upload images onto the computer, make color corrections and adjustments, as well as experimenting with positive and negative imaging.
• Color Management / DM308
This is an advanced course in learning how to calibrate your computer to color correct photographs using Photoshop. Students should bring information about the type of computer, monitor and printer they work with.
Digital Design
• InDesign / DM400
This fundamental class of Adobe InDesign will provide a working knowledge of the program for marketers, publishers and graphic designers. Learn how to create graphic material including catalogs, brochures and posters through exercises in creating, moving and resizing images, as well as importing text and graphics. Great for students at any level, ready to broaden their computer skills.
• Adobe Illustrator I / DM401
This class teaches a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator, which includes file setup, use of layers and the execution of tools. Explore ways to use the computer as a tool to aid the development of visual concepts and overall visual language. Students who are at a beginner level or who want more confidence in their illustrator skills will benefit from this class.
• InDesign & Word / DM402
Learn how to integrate the tools of Microsoft Word with Adobe InDesign. Learn the basics of Word, the elements of type, formatting text and layout design to create graphics in InDesign. The fundamentals of book design, logos, letterheads, and business cards will be covered to create your own individual designs.
Video Arts
• Video Production / DM500
Learn to get professional results using a camcorder for home movies or documentaries. Camcorder setup, microphones and lighting will be covered as well as advanced techniques and production strategies.
• Digital Editing With Final Cut Pro / DM501
Learn the essentials of video and film editing with Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express. This class will cover digitizing, trimming, audio adjustments, adding titles, filters, and transitions. Using our state-of-the-art equipment, learn how to output to a tape, to a digital file or to your hard drive.
• Stop-Animation / DM502
Explore the magical world of stop-animation where the animator can breathe life into just about anything. Working with a variety of materials and techniques students will learn the fine art of creating the illusion of motion. Hands on projects will include frame-by-frame animation, the use of clay, paper cutouts, painting and drawing.
Teen

Students will prepare and develop artists’ materials needed for college entry including artist’s statement, resume, biography, digital portfolio & website. For best results each student should research in advance what their art school of choice requires for admission.
