• Accordion Art Books

A book is meant to be read from cover to cover.  Or is it? What happens when the way a book is “made” forces you to encounter what’s “in it,” in a whole new way? Accordion books overtly make the point that there is another way to look at a book entirely.  In this workshop, we will create several variations on what is perhaps the most versatile structure in bookbinding. More information.

• Japanese Stab Binding

Think Zen.  Think serenity.  This ancient binding dates back to the fourth century.  In this class, 3 books will be sewn, each in a unique and traditional style.  Text pages will be made of rice paper but handmade paper or prints might be used very effectively as a cover or decorative element.  Finally, a cloth-bound folding box will be created to store our beautiful set of books. More information.

• The Blanket Stitched Box

This charming structure is made from a handful of cards that have been sewn individually and then laced together to form a “saltbox.”  In this workshop, seven cards will be used to build you a unique house of cards.  Whether you use prints, drawings, or funky postcards, whether you add text or not, this box will surely be one of a kind. More information.
